Recycled Materials
Sustainable practices at Gordon Avenue are not limited to energy and water use. We carefully selected our interior finish materials and furniture from companies that practice environmentally sustainable manufacturing.
Some of these companies are quite proficient at reusing waste materials from their manufacturing processes, others focus on creating their products from recycled materials in the first place. Still others are progressive in their management and human resources strategies so that they produce their products in a humane way – offering a living wage for employees, and benefits packages that include resources for socially responsible practices.
Some of our vendors include:
-
Guilford of Maine – this fabric company takes pride in its “green” fabrics, producing beautiful products from both plastics and recycled natural fibers.
-
Herman Miller – this leader in the field of “green” manufacturing produces office furniture from recycled materials, in plants that are environmentally sustainable. They attend to every detail, from purchasing wood from sustainable supplies, to using water-based stains, to reducing the amount of packaging needed for their products, to building their own “green” manufacturing buildings.
