The current level of consumption and pollution in North America places an unsustainable burden on our resources and our environment. Buildings are one of the single largest users of energy, comprising about 40% of the United States’ annual energy consumption. Conventional buildings are expensive to operate and they contribute to excessive resource use, waste generation, and pollution. We have reduced our building’s environmental impact by using renewable energy sources, selecting responsibly produced materials for construction, and by reusing the building itself.
